DSR - "Daemonicus"

Post by Cassiopeia on Mon 20 Jun 2011, 22:33

Today (Monday, June 20) make sure to watch the season 9 episode "Daemonicus", focusing on the scenes between Doggett and Scully. How do you think their interaction has changed since Scully became a teacher and is no longer obligated to work on X-Files cases with Doggett (and Reyes)? Analyze Doggett's reactions to Kobold reading his mind about his love for Scully, what do you think of these revelations? Compare the interaction between Doggett and Scully in season 8 with how they are together in season 9 now that they aren't FBI partners - has anything changed in their interactions? If yes, what? Explain.

For those of you who may have your XF DVD box sets packed away, or if you haven't gotten around to buying them yet, or just want to watch the episodes on your computer, check out this link:

An original spoiler leak from 2001 about episode 3 of season 9. I found this posted to the SHODDS mailing list on August 24, 2001

"The inmate accuses Doggett of having feelings for Scully but being
unable to compete with the long lost Agent Mulder."

Aaaand...

"There is also a scene where Scully puts her hand "reassuringly" on
Doggett's arm to talk to him, as he is frustrated, which the inmate
appears to see."

Original spoilers from the script from 2001!

Kobold: I've been thinking a lot about you Agent Doggett

Doggett: You're not answering my question, professor.

Kobold: About how someone so ill-suited would draw this duty. Clearly, you
have feelings for Agent Scully.

Doggett feels thrown off balance, struggles to right himself.

Doggett: You ordered Dr. Richman to kill these people, didn't you?

Still, Kobold keeps walking, moving closer on Doggett's space.

Kobold: But you can't compete with the long-lost Agent Mulder, with his easy good looks, with his dry superior humor, smug Oxford education-

Doggett is having trouble processing this, how does this sonofabitch
even know who Mulder is? But he presses on:

Doggett: This is about you, professor.

Kobold: Mulder's got what you can't have, and yet you stumble forward, the flat footed cop, thinking he can put handcuffs on demons.

Doggett: Answer the question!

Kobold is close in Doggett's face. He whispers, hatred and contempt
dripping from every word.

Kobold: You want her, but she feels sorry for you. They both do.

Interesting to note that they changed "Agent Scully" to "her" when they shot the episode.

I'm going to have to pull out my shooting script for this episode and compare it to see if the original shooting script is any different from the draft these spoilers were pulled from...
