What is your favorite season of FRVS?

Post by Cassiopeia on Mon 19 Apr 2010, 12:55

Now that FRVS is over, finally I can start a thread about which season is your favorite. After you vote, please take the time to strike up discussion and tell us why you love that season. Was it a certain character plotline, relationship development, progression of the alien mytharc, or something else altogether?

I voted for seasons 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. As a writer of FRVS, I feel that these are the strongest seasons of the series. Yes, the first five seasons are nuts, really silly and don't feel completely grounded, but I know that after the first movie ("European Voyage") Kristi and I had figured out where we were taking our story heading into the final seasons of the series, and that only helped us develop characters and relationships, and of course the alien mythology. Plus, pretty much all the great Doggett/Scully stuff (a lot of it in stories I wrote) are in those last few seasons, and I'm a sucker for DSR.

I voted for seasons 7, 8, and 10.

I struggled with season 9.

I love the first six seasons (except for season 4, I could have done without that just fine), but I really liked my writing best in the three seasons I voted for. I felt they were the strongest for me and I can look back at them now (which is a big deal since the series hasn't been off the "air" in a year) and I love them.

Okay, I haven't read through very much of FRVS, so I can't vote at this time. HOWEVER... I have taken a look through a couple episodes.

I MUST say... there was one... I'll have to go find it and read it again... It made me Laugh Out Loud. 2 Thumbs up from me. (I love funny stuff, this one was good.)

Let me recall the story and you tell me which one it was:

I think the story was set at Christmas time (in fact, I'm sure it was)... the whole gang is there and enjoying the festivities of a Christmas party. In the midst of the frivolity, a guest appears... who is the guest? It's none other than "what's her name" (okay, call me a bad phile... you know... uh... hold on... I'm looking it up... okay, I can't find it right now... you know the scene: M&S are in the hospital and that chick asks about how they got out of Antarctica... that chick). In this episode, each of the characters are wondering how to get away from this person. Very entertaining.

The dialogue in that story was hilarious. So, kudos to that episode, which ever one it was.

LOL Yes! That one is called 8x20 "The Second Friday" and the character is Leyla Harrison. It's not Christmas time, they're preparing to watch the opening ceremony of the 2006 Torino Olympics! LOL Good one!

LOL That is part one of a two-parter IIRC I actually remember writing this one, it's one that I put a lot of work into. I'm so glad that you like it.

LOL Leyla Harrison on our series was too funny. She was the thorn in their side -- much like the Magazine Girls! Haha!

Okay, I'm going to have to check that one (8X20) out, cause I'm sure there's a Christmas one, too. Now, I'm going to have to look for it. I love humor and I must say, I was ROTFL with the one that I had read before. I'm almost certain it had a Christmas theme.

But now, I'm as intrigued as ever that there's more. I've just gotta start at the beginning. I know that FRVS has won some awards and I'm very interested to read the whole thing through.

Hmm, I honestly do not remember if Leyla Harrison made it into a Xmas episode or not (at least those eps are easy to find).

The beginning of FRVS (first four seasons) have short stories, you could probably get through season 1 in a day, season 2 the next, and so on. Season 4 you could probably skip, it's my least favorite season, and go straight to season 5 and not miss too much (the season 3 finale story carries on with the season 5 premiere - everything in s4 is pretty much ignored in the series LOL).

We are planning on doing a FRVS re-read on the forum soon (I'm hoping for September 5th to kick off celebrating our 12th year online). When we do that we'll start up threads for episode discussions :)

If you go ahead and start now feel free to start discussions on your own (or bring up events of the episodes with the characters in the Goofy Spooky section).

I have to say... I've been itching to re-read FRVS now that it's nearly been two years since I've read a full episode of the series.

Wow, so, I've done some browsing, but I haven't found what I feel as if I remember. My memory may be failing me... lol.

Dang! I feel like I remember a scene where Leyla is there and Scully is hiding behind Mulder who is hiding behind Krycek. I'll keep searching. :)

Hmm... I just skimmed through "The Second Friday", and I think you're right. I sort of remember an ep where Scully hides behind Mulder who's hiding behind someone else (maybe it's Krycek), and that isn't in TSF. Now I wonder which episode it is (I only helped write this series, you think I'd know it LOL).

Apparently my memory is failing me too.

Was it 815 "Into The Heart"? There's a scene in there (and it's Xmas time) where Scully hides behind Doggett, and Mulder hides behind Knowle when Leyla shows up.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Here's the part I think you are talking about:

MULDER (O.S.)
Oh god no!! Hide me!

SCULLY (O.S.)
Oh crap!

Mulder and Scully run into the kitchen.

Doggett and Knowle turn around. Scully hides behind Doggett and Mulder clings onto Knowle.

MULDER
(terrified)
Help me! Hide me! Save me!

Knowle looks towards the living room to see Krycek going to open the door.

In the living room...

Krycek opens the door to see a short, young, blond woman. He smiles at her à la the hunky punk.

KRYCEK
(da man)
Hey baby, how you doin’?

LEYLA HARRISON
Ew! Gross! It’s Ratboy.

Krycek wrinkles his little nose. Did she just say “Ew! Gross!” about the hunky punk? About da man? No. It couldn’t be. Is this the dreaded Leyla Harrison who has stalked Mulder and Scully onto the Goofy Spooky Forum?

KRYCEK
(mad)
Who you callin’ “gross”, bitch?!

LEYLA HARRISON
I don’t like you. I’m here
to see my favorite loving
couple, Mulder and Scully.
(beat) I have a present for them.

KRYCEK
Whatever. They’re in the kitchen.

SCULLY (O.S.)
Shit!

Leyla enters the house. She looks at Brad and sneers.

LEYLA HARRISON
(to Brad)
You’re slimy. Stay away from Moronica,
I’m getting into DRR now.

Brad looks at Krycek.

BRAD
(couldn’t understand her)
What did she say?

Krycek shrugs his shoulders. He doesn’t know.

Leyla makes her way into the kitchen to find Doggett and Knowle standing straight and stiff. On Knowle’s shoulder, we see a hand clutching on for “dear life”. Monica sits at the table watching. Mulder and Scully are not seen.

LEYLA HARRISON
Dogbert, where’s Mulder and Scully?

DOGGETT
(annoyed)
The name's Doggett, not Dogbert.

Leyla looks over at Knowle and screams.

LEYLA HARRISON
Oh my god! You’re a Super Soldier!

KNOWLE
Super what?

MULDER
(from behind Knowle; enlightened)
Super Buddies?

SCULLY
(from behind Doggett)
Shut up, Mulder.

MULDER
(from behind Knowle)
Owie. You hit me.

SCULLY
(from behind Doggett)
Just shut up!

LEYLA HARRISON
Oh my gosh! Is that the loving
sounds of my MSR?

She starts to come up to Doggett and Knowle, who start to lean back, trying to get as far away from her as they can without stepping on Mulder or Scully.

MULDER
(scared; squeaks; behind Knowle)
Oh no! HIDE ME!

Knowle rolls his eyes and looks back at Mulder.

KNOWLE
I was until you started talking.

SCULLY
Way to go, Mulder.

LEYLA HARRISON
Oh my gosh! You so love each other.
Come out Mulder and Scully. Get away
from these mean, mean, meanies.

MULDER
(from behind Knowle)
Do you think she’ll go away
if we don’t move? Like a T-Rex?

LEYLA HARRISON
I have a present for you two.

MULDER
(from behind Knowle)
Go away! Mulder’s not here!

DOGGETT
Look, Ms. Harrison, it’s obvious
no one is thrilled to have you here-

MULDER
(from behind Knowle)
-To say the least!

DOGGETT (CON’T)
So how about you just leave
and go spend Christmas Eve
with your family. All right?

LEYLA HARRISON
You better get away from Mulder’s
Scully or else he’ll get you, Dogbert!

Brad and Krycek enter the kitchen to see what is going on.

BRAD
(amused)
And here I thought she was
just a myth.

Leyla turns to face him.

LEYLA HARRISON
Go away! You killed Luke and
tried to steal Moronica away
from Dogbert. You know, they were
having an affair in New York.

BRAD
John, you know that psychological
evaluation that’s required for
federal agents?

DOGGETT
Yeah.

BRAD
Remind me when we get back
in the office to set her
up for one of those.

DOGGETT
No kidding.

MONICA
Leyla...

Leyla turns to face Monica.

LEYLA HARRISON
You’re too happy for the show.

MULDER
(from behind Knowle)
What show is she talking about?

MONICA
(after a beat)
Whatever... Ms. Harrison, no one
wants you here. Your aura is very
dark and murky. Please leave.

LEYLA HARRISON
You smile too much too. I don’t
like you. You’re a flake.

KNOWLE
No she’s not.

Scully nudges Doggett and whispers:

SCULLY
See Johnny. I’m tellin’ you.
He likes her.

DOGGETT
Of course he does. They’re friends.

SCULLY
More than friends.

She nudges him again.

LEYLA HARRISON
(to Knowle)
Oh what do you know, you stupid
Super Soldier! You’re only programmed
to kill people! But you wait and see!
Scully’s Mulder will get the better of you!

MULDER
(mad; from behind Knowle)
That’s it!!

Mulder comes out of hiding and marches up to Leyla. She smiles at him.

MULDER
Out! I want you out!

LEYLA HARRISON
But I wrote a smut MSR fic for
you and Scully.

MULDER
I don’t care! I’ve had enough!
Stop trying to ruin Christmas!
George Lucas did that last year,
and I won’t have it again this year!

Mulder takes her by the arm and leads her out of the house.

LEYLA HARRISON
But my fic is about how you
got Scully pregnant!

Mulder opens the front door and pushes her out of the house.

MULDER
You’re crazy!

He slams the door on her face and locks it. Everyone has followed him out of the kitchen.

Scully runs up to Mulder and hugs him. Through the window Leyla squeals in excitement. Scully sees her and pulls away from Mulder.

SCULLY
Good lord, she’s squealing.

KRYCEK
(devious)
I could take care of her.

SCULLY
Please do!

Krycek heads to the door, pulling a gun out of the back of his pants. Mulder grabs him.

MULDER
NO KILLING, ALEX!! Marita
wouldn’t approve!

KRYCEK
Fine... have it your way...
But the next time she gets
like this, don’t be comin’
to me to fix it.

A buzzer from the kitchen goes off, catching everyone’s attention.

DOGGETT
That would be dinner.

He smiles at everyone.

MULDER/KRYCEK
HOORAY! Finally, we can eat!

ROTFL! YES, but even with a failing memory... Yes, you found it!!! You found the one I was thinking of! It was almost like a treasure hunt, wasn't it? LOL. Great scene! I love comedy. I really did "Laugh Out Loud" when I read this the first time. Thanks for finding it again! Funny stuff is right up my alley.
