Proof Doggett desires Scully, as per CC's written word

Post by Cassiopeia on Mon 19 Apr 2010, 11:27

Here is a scan of the page from the original shooting script to "Trust No 1" (season 9) where Chris Carter wrote that Doggett desires Scully. Ta da! Proof that Doggett desires her Smile Rock on! tapdance

"If Mulder's safety is Doggett's paramount desire, his desire for Scully is always at war with his honor."

Obviously this part of the script is likely my favorite line ever written in any X-Files script. Is it bad to think what would have happened if he hadn't any honor? *evil cackles*

Didnt know where else to mention this but on a video interview with Robert Patrick and Fox, for the season 9 opening episodes, Robert describes the set up for season 9, that Reyes and Doggett visit Scully for help on cases and Robert says that "Doggett is very fond of her (Scully), so Im sure he's gonna be seeking her out as much as possible." And with his tone and the shaking of his head when he says "very", he means, Doggett is still in love with Scully.

Robert Patrick is a Doggett/Scully fan, no doubt about it. Back when the show was on the air that's nearly all he could talk about when it came to discussing Doggett and his partnership with Scully.

From the NIHT1 script (not a scene included in the actual episode):

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The script has a scene where Doggett calls out Mulder's name searching for him, in what could be Mulder's apartment, which was unlocked. The script skips a page in what we've seen and we next have Scully telling Doggett, "He's Gone," through her sobs. Doggett "holds her wishing he could be the man to save her from this pain. Wishing away his own pain at knowing he isn't."

Now... why exclude a scene like this from NIHT1? It would have been nice to see how the Doggett/Scully friendship had come in a year with Doggett being there to comfort her and offer a shoulder for her to cry on. It kills me though that Doggett is wishing away his own pain, knowing that he isn't the one to save her from this pain.

If Doggett had been written with any kind of confidence, I'm positive that eventually he could have been the man to save her from the pain in her life. But the 'shippers couldn't have Scully not in pain, because that would mean having Scully choose someone else over Mulder to be the main man in her life. But yes, if Doggett had been written true to his season 8 character during season 9, he so could have been the man to help Scully get through the pain, and the man who would have been there for her and her child.

I imagine that if Doggett had wound up being involved with Scully during season 9 that she never would have given her son up for adoption at the end of the season. I have a gut feeling about that.
