Diana Fowley - A competitor?

Post by Pixie468 on Tue 14 Sep 2010, 14:45

I really, really did NOT like the Diana Fowley character. Nothing about her I found interesting.
It has nothing to do with Diana being a love-interest of Mulder's either, I am quite sure.
She seemed old, unfriendly, biting, and ambitious to a point of being ruthless towards Scully and others.

It could have been interesting if there erupted a more competition between Scully and Diana, for the affections of Mulder, but also (and more importantly) for the self-interest in the X-files job. Scully put a lot of time and work into that unit, and I can see why she would not want to relinquish something like that to someone like Fowley.

I actually started off not liking Diana Fowley (I was a member of the old mailing list called the Diana Fowley Haters Brigade), but I have come to really, really like her. I actually think that Diana behaved more maturely than Scully did in the episodes that featured Fowley. I always get pissed off at Scully for being such a bitch to Diana.

Honestly though I think that Diana would have won out on a competition for "interest in the X-files job", she was there with Mulder when he found the X-files, she's very much involved in the conspiracy, she seems more invested in the X-files role in Mulder's life (his life's work), and Scully... Scully just doesn't have her heart and soul in Mulder's life's work. As we saw in IWTB, Scully wants to forget all about her time with the FBI, the work that she and Mulder did, and she fully expects Mulder to stop too, she wants him to change to fit her ideal relationship/life with him, she doesn't understand him like Diana does/did. At least Diana loved Mulder for who he is, who he was, and who he will always be; you can't say the same for Scully.

I ain't mad at ya Pixie468, I can not stand Diana Fowley. In every fan fiction I have written, she is more evil than, Krycek? Cancer Man? Yeah...Cancer Man, becuse Krycek is like half and half--and I like him. So yeah, anyway, back to Diana--yes, PURE EVIL. Some may think that is taking it too far...but oh well, if the shoe fits...

I'll never forget that scene during Season 5 when Diana was alone with Mulder and they were talking. Scully saw them through the glass and then she walked away.

It's not that I'm some full-blown Mulder/Scully shipper either...but I wanted to knock Mulder in the head whenever Diana was around...and knock her in the head, too.

I think Diana had her chance...with Mulder and most importantly, The X-Files...but then she lost it. Scully had paid her dues--she had become Mulder's partner and it stood out to me as a stronger relationship or a stronger bond because they hadn't went jumping into the deep-end of shipper-ness.

That's what really appealed to me about Scully rather than Diana. Scully never had any interest in The X-Files, but she was forced to do her job...and in doing so she helped Mulder along the way plenty of times. If Diana stuck around and worked The X-Files with Mulder, they both would have jumped off the deep end together eventually.

And jumping off the deep end together would have been so interesting to watch, at least for me.

Ahaha yeah--but it wouldn't have gone on as long as it did. If opposites attract more than ever, it most likely is on a TV show or a movie. At least from the things I've seen. I don't just mean in a romantic way either. I mean that could have happened--two crazy people going after aliens could very well have been a success.
