"Last Resort" (2012 - ????)

500 feet beneath the ocean's surface, the U.S. ballistic missile submarine Colorado receives their orders. Over a radio channel, designed only to be used if their homeland has been wiped out, they're told to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan. Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) demands confirmation of the orders only to be unceremoniously relieved of duty by the White House. XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) finds himself suddenly in charge of the submarine and facing the same difficult decision. When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit. The submarine and its crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Chaplin and Kendal take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of the Colorado to an exotic island. Here they will find refuge, romance, and a chance at a new life, even as they try to clear their names and get home. From executive producer/writer Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit, The Chicago Code) and Executive producer/writer Karl Gajdusek comes this dramatic new international action-thriller about treachery, treason, and nuclear brinksmanship. LAST RESORT contemplates establishing of a new society in the modern world, and character becomes everything when unthinkable decisions must be made.

Robert has signed on to do a pilot for ABC called "Last Resort" from Shawn Ryan of "The Shield" and (of course) "The Unit". It is set in Hawaii, and will also feature Andre Braugher and a large ensemble cast.

I just read about this last night, and had to share. I just found more details on the premise at Deadline Hollywood. Here is an excerpt:


"Felicity alum Scott Speedman is returning to television with a starring role opposite Andre Braugher in ABC’s pilot Last Resort, from Shawn Ryan and Karl Gadjusek. The Sony TV-produced project centers on the crew of the nuclear submarine USS Nevada who after disobeying a suspicious order become fugitives. They land on the island of Sainte Marina, where they take over the NATO Listening Station and declare themselves an independent nuclear nation. Speedman plays Xo Sam Kendal, second-in-command of the Nevada behind Capt. Chaplin (Braugher) who is “the beating heart of the boat.” Also cast in the pilot is Gersh-repped Camille de Pazzis as Sophie, scientist in charge of the listening station who is shocked when Chaplin and his crew take over. Martin Campbell is directing the pilot, which will begin production at the beginning of March in Hawaii."

From what I read, Andre Braugher is being billed as the lead, and there is quite a sizable ensemble cast. I guess we'll have to wait and see, if the show gets picked up, how much screen time Robert gets. I'll take anything.

Exclusive: Robert Patrick Upgraded to Series Regular on ABC's Fall Thriller Last Resort

Good news for the crew of the USS Colorado: Their master chief isn’t bailing after the premiere.

ABC’s new thriller Last Resort has formally upgraded Robert Patrick, who plays the submarine’s MC Joseph Prosser, to a series regular, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The X-Files vet initially signed on as a guest star in the pilot.

The Shawn Ryan-produced Resort, which will air Thursdays at 8/7c this fall, is set in the not-so-distant future and follows the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine who become fugitives after refusing to fire their missiles. Ultimately, they make camp on an island that hosts a NATO listening station and declare themselves an independent nuclear nation.

The cast includes Andre Braugher, Scott Speedman, Dichen Lachman and Autumn Reeser.

Just watched the pilot online. (There's a link via Adriana's RP website.) I am NOT big on anything military-related, but holy shit, this is one action-packed, intense and interesting pilot!! RP wasn't featured all that much, and so far his character comes off like a really uptight prick. However, the plot set-up --- various different groups of people (Navy, NATO, locals, drug lord type of guy) who are being forced now to share this little island, seems like it will provide plenty of character development and possibilities for storylines. I wasn't sure I'd be into it, but I'm kinda hooked now!
